PROFESSOR BRETT VAN HOESEN AND THE UNR RESEARCH PROJECT

Dr. Brett M. Van Hoesen is professor of Art History at the University of Nevada Reno (UNR). She specializes in German art and artists, especially Dada. In 2013 when she became aware of Horst's work, she immediately became very interested in his collages. She began collecting and archiving historical information like journals, documents, brochures and photographs from Horst's life in order to develop an Art Historical basis for his work. She quickly identified several important events in the Bay art scene that had enabled and informed Horst's collages.

As the project grew in success and scope, the estate set up the Horst Gottschalk Research Fellowship at UNR, to help with Brett's efforts, including those of her staff. As you can see below the results have been remarkable. Stay tuned for more.
