BRUNO MÜLLER-LINOW (1909, 1997)
Painter and Art School Instructor

Bruno Müller-Linow is one of three instructors at Braunschweig that Horst mentioned along with Paul Schifffers and Harro Siegel. During the war Müller-Linow lived in Rome.

One of Horst's complaints about his instructors was that their use of color tended to dark depressing tones, with lots of dark browns grays and blacks. It's interesting that in the 1970's Müller-Linow, like Horst, began expoloring a much more saturated and varied pallette.

There are two paintings by Horst, that show a strong influence from Müller-Linow's style. They were completel in 1955, long after he had graduated from Braunschweig. bear little resemblance to Horst's later work, and he did them in 1955, well after his time at Braunschweig.
