Horst grew up in Germany, and after the war attended Göttingen and the Braunsweig and Dusseldorf art schools. In 1958 he visted the United States and emigrated a year later.
Inspired by the freedom and openess of America, Horst spent the next 40 years producing a fascinating and eclectic body of art.
For 6 years he concentrated on a series of Neo-Dada Collages he described as A combination of Abstract Expressionism and Kurt Schwitters.
In 1966 he began painting combining Hyper-stylization, Surrealism, and Colorism with his unique Dadaist humor.
A devoted follwer of Carl Jung, Horst used paintings to chronicle a psychological journey of self-acutalization, creative mythology and spiritual development.
