ABOUT THE ESTATE

Purpose

When Horst passed away in 1998 his entire estate passed to his wife Barbara Gottschalk. Shortly after, she moved from Bainbridge Island to Larkspur, California, bringing the 100+ of Horst's works with her. In 2013 she moved to San Rafael, and the majority of his work is now stored in archival conditions at Ship Art International in South San Francisco.

Horst's step son, Douglas Tuttle and his wife Lynn Brantley have begun to assume more of the duties of managing the estate, including supporting exhibits, creating this web site and publishing two books on Horst. A catalog of Horst's complete works is also being prepared. Drafts of the chapters are available on this web site.

We are very lucky and honored that Professor Brett M. Van Hoesen from the University of Nevada at Reno has begun reseraching Horst's life and work. In conjunction with the catalog, she is archiving historical documents, photographs and reconstructing art historical details affecting Horst's life. An speicailist in German art and artists, Professor Van Hoesen is preparing a series of articles, lectures and books on Horst's work and its place in art history.

The Horst Gottshchalk LLC was formed in 2012 to help fund the ongoing expenses of the estate.

Call for Information

During his lifetime, Horst sold well over 100 works of Art. The location and ownership of most of those works have been lost. We would greatly appreciate any information regarding the location of any of his works from any period. If you own a work, or know of the location of one, please contact the estate by email, phone or mail.
